Konstantinos Bessas

Let’s take a look at the top announcements from Day 4 of re:Invent 2021, always with some extra notes on why they made it to the list. The keynote for the fourth day of re:Invent was presented by Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon. Let’s take a look at the announcements.

Construct Hub and AWS Cloud Development Kit Version 2

I have been an excited user of the AWS CDK since the very early releases. I believe in the benefits of proper programming and the structure it brings forward for the IaC projects that leverage its power. Within Sentia, we have been releasing constructs in our sentialabs public repositories.

With these 2 releases, things are simplified greatly. First of all, with AWS CDK V2, AWS focuses on productivity improvements for developers working with CDK projects by consolidating individual packages (libraries) used in version 1 into a single monolithic package. With the Construct Hub, it is now easy to share and find constructs created by the huge community behind the CDK.

Sustainability Pillar for AWS Well-Architected Framework

The Well-Architected Framework is the holy manuscript for all AWS Cloud Architects. It defines in 5 pilars the best practices one should follow when designing and building solutions in AWS. And now, it has been extended with one of the most important concepts we are striving for nowadays: Sustainability.

This is a continuous effort focused on energy reduction and efficiency for various workloads. The pillar helps cloud architects surface the trade-offs, highlight patterns and best practices, and avoid anti-patterns. It is designed to support organizations in developing a better understanding of the state of their workloads, as well as the impact related to defined sustainability targets.

AWS Amplify Studio

Focus on Developers.

AWS Amplify is a set of tools that bring the power of AWS to frontend and web developers. With Amplify Studio you can work with AWS no matter your cloud knowledge. You can build feature rich cloud connected apps that have all the various best practices build-in. I am really excited to try this out and identify how it can enable AWS’ and our customers be more productive.
